Bar fights in Meers reduce reputation

Using your bare hands in a bar fight to kill the drunks reduces your reputation in Meers. Last time we spoke about this, you lost rep only if you used a weapon more powerful than brass knuckles. The first time I tried this today was with a shotgun equipped. I went into melee mode, but still got docked 16 rep at the end of the fight. The next fight was without any equipped weapon at all, and it still cost m PC 16 rep points.
